As a dentist we are passionate about oral health. If you have suffered any type of pain in your teeth or gums, you understand why not keeping up with oral health can effect your quality of life. Dentists also understand the role good oral health plays in whole body health and wellness.
Unfortunately not everyone has the means to regularly see a dentist. Several years ago I learned about an organization in Vancouver that operates a full service dental clinic serving those who need it most. VAHS Dental Clinic in Vancouver, Canada, has been a crucial resource for providing essential dental care to vulnerable populations in the community. The Vancouver Native Health Society (VNHS) operates this clinic, aiming to address the dental health needs of Indigenous individuals and marginalized communities in the Greater Vancouver area.
The VAHS Dental Clinic serves a diverse group of patients, including Indigenous peoples, individuals experiencing homelessness, low-income families, and those facing barriers to accessing regular dental care. The clinic's primary focus lies in offering comprehensive dental services, encompassing preventive care, oral health education, and treatments ranging from routine check-ups and cleanings to more complex procedures.
With a commitment to culturally sensitive and patient-centered care, the clinic strives to create a welcoming and supportive environment for all individuals seeking dental assistance. Cultural considerations and respectful approaches to care are integrated into their services to accommodate the diverse backgrounds of their patients.
The clinic's mission extends beyond providing dental treatments; it emphasizes education on proper oral hygiene practices, preventive measures, and the significance of regular dental check-ups. By offering accessible and affordable dental care, the VAHS Dental Clinic contributes to improving the oral health and overall well-being of the community it serves.
The clinic often collaborates with community organizations, local healthcare providers, and government initiatives to expand its reach and advocate for better access to dental services for underserved populations.
Through its dedication to serving marginalized communities and promoting oral health equity, the VAHS Dental Clinic plays a vital role in addressing the dental care needs of vulnerable individuals in Vancouver, aligning with the broader objectives of the Vancouver Native Health Society to enhance healthcare access and outcomes for Indigenous and marginalized groups.
I offer my expertise when called on to serve this community and strongly believe under represented groups should have access to oral healthcare just as they do to other types of healthcare. If you are interested in learning more about the program you can go to https://vahs.life/dental-clinic.
