What It Is

A dental bridge is a fixed dental restoration used to replace one or more missing teeth by bridging the gap between adjacent teeth or dental implants. Comprised of artificial teeth (pontics) that replicate natural teeth, a bridge is secured in place by attaching it to the neighboring teeth with dental crowns or to implants on either side of the empty space. This prosthetic device not only restores functionality, allowing for proper chewing and speaking, but it also helps maintain the alignment of surrounding teeth, prevents shifting, and improves the overall appearance of the smile. Dental bridges offer a stable and durable solution for tooth replacement, enhancing both oral health and aesthetics.

  • How Long Does A Dental Bridge Last?

The lifetime of a dental bridge can vary based on factors like oral hygiene, material used,  location of the bridge, and overall oral health maintenance. On average, dental bridges can last anywhere between 5 to 15 years or even longer with proper care.

  • What Are The Negatives Of A Dental Bridge?

Dental bridges may require altering adjacent healthy teeth, making them more prone to potential issues. The difficulty in cleaning around the bridge increases the risk of decay and gum disease if proper oral hygiene isn't rigorously maintained. Additionally, over time, the bridge may face wear, potential loosening, or failure of the cement bonding, which could necessitate repairs or replacements.

  • Is A Bridget Painfull?

The process of getting a dental bridge typically involves numbing the area with local anesthesia, so the procedure itself is not generally painful. A small number of our patients have had mild discomfort or sensitivity in the days following the bridge placement. which can usually be managed with over-the-counter pain medication and tends to subside as the mouth adjusts to the new restoration.
